Wilberforce University Gymnastics Team Welcoming Former Talladega College Gymnasts for Inaugural Season 2025

Wilberforce, OH - August 1, 2024 - Brown Girls Do Gymnastics is thrilled to announce that the majority of the gymnasts from the recently discontinued team at Talladega College will join the inaugural gymnastics team at Wilberforce University. The team, set to begin competing in January 2025, will be led by the newly appointed Head Coach, Eboni Jackson.

Eboni Jackson, a former collegiate gymnast and the previous head coach of Acro and Tumbling at Converse University, brings a wealth of experience and success to Wilberforce. During her tenure at Converse University, she led her team to the NCATA Nationals and coached four All-American athletes in her last season. Her leadership and dedication to the sport are sure to drive the new Wilberforce gymnastics team to great achievements.

Derrin Moore, the founder of Brown Girls Do Gymnastics, expressed her enthusiasm for the new team: "HBCU Gymnastics is still thriving and we are proud of the gymnasts for taking up the helm and moving forward. This new team at Wilberforce University is a testament to the resilience and passion of our history and the athletes."

Dr. Vann Newkirk, President of Wilberforce University, shared his excitement about this historic moment: "I am proud to be the president who launched the first HBCU gymnastics team and now the third. We are elevating the mission that the second HBCU started and making it accessible for gymnasts. This new team signifies our commitment to providing more opportunities for our student-athletes."

In preparation for the upcoming season, Brown Girls Do Gymnastics and the Isla®  Foundation are actively fundraising to ensure the team has a successful year. We are also searching for sponsors to support the team’s needs and aspirations.
